Restaurant María Cuquita
About This Spot
Perched just above the shimmering shores of Mismaloya, Restaurant María Cuquita feels like a cherished hideaway where the rhythm of the Pacific sets the pace. From the moment you arrive, there's a gentle, unhurried welcome — the kind that invites you to slow down, breathe in the sea breeze, and soak up expansive views dotted with whales cruising by. The open-air atmosphere blends effortlessly with the natural surroundings, creating a quiet yet vibrant space where every visit feels deeply connected to the place.
At María Cuquita, the kitchen is a mindful celebration of Vallarta’s coastal bounty, where seafood is honored with both tradition and thoughtful creativity. Imagine savoring dishes where shrimp and fish arrive fresh and thoughtfully prepared — whether it’s the warmly spiced “camaron capeado” or the delicate balance of flavors in a stuffed fish accented with local greens and soft cream cheese. The simplicity of freshly made tortillas and house-crafted salsas adds a homely touch, grounding each bite in the kitchen’s authentic heart.
The mood here stretches comfortably between family warmth and the quiet pleasure of thoughtful hospitality. It’s the kind of place where locals bring their families, sharing stories over plates designed to please both the palate and the eye, while visitors find themselves returning time and again, drawn by the subtle but memorable flavors and the gentle hum of ocean-side calm. Fresh-squeezed drinks and attentive service round out an experience that feels both familiar and a little like discovering one of Vallarta’s best-kept secrets.

What a beautiful day in Mismaloya enjoying DE-LI-CIOUS food at María Cuquita Restaurante! This family-owned restaurant is one of Mismaloya's best kept secrets with it's homemade salsa, fresh-squeezed drinks, and plates that are as mouthwatering as they are pleasing to the eyes! Best of all, it's perched right above the beach with an amazing view of the whales swimming through the Pacific. It's a must-try when you visit Puerto Vallarta, and we will DEFINITELY be back!

This place has been a favorite of mine and my family for almost two years. Their new location at Sierra Leon Hotel is beautiful and compliments their gorgeously presented delicious plates. Every time we are in Vallarta this is our go-to for Breakfast as they have a great selection of local dishes as well as their own spin on some classic breakfast items. Last night was our first time trying the dinner menu and as always they did not disappoint. I Had the tortilla soup as a starter and mixed fajitas for a main dish. The tortilla soup was delicious and the fajitas were to die for. My wife had the Caesar salad as a starter and Pork tenderloin dish as a main course. Usually my wife brings home leftovers but tonight was different. If you are in town and want some amazing food at a great price. Give this place a try. This lovely family owned restaurant is sure to leave you wanting to come back for more.

I originally stopped here because they took credit cards but the food was so good I continued to come back. I ate at this restaurant 7 times during my 4 day stay at a condo nearby. I am a chef and very picky about food and this place really blew me away with each dish. My favorites were the shrimp or fish tacos a la plancha (not breaded) and the stuffed pork and stuffed fish. I can’t recommend this place enough and you’re missing out if you don’t come by to try their delicious food. The service was also so friendly and attentive and their new location is right on the ocean so the environment is relaxing and beautiful.

This restaurant was amazing! The view, the staff and most importantly, the food! The area is known for its seafood and I am not a big seafood fan. I decided to try the Filete De Pescado MARIA CUQUITA. It was soooo good! The flavors were rich and perfect. The service was exceptional and the view was just perfect.

We stayed at Barcelo, which is right beside this place. We were looking to escape the food from our resort and stumbled upon Maria’s. We were so happy we did! The food was fantastic. The tortilla chips were freshly made and served hot. Coconut shrimp was perfectly cooked and the fish taco / shrimp tacos were a highlight. The presentation was great and was affordable. If you are staying near mismaloya, would highly recommend checking this spot out!

The staff is awesome. The food is good I personally loved their french toast with a nice almond crust. IT IS DELICIOUS! to say the least. The prices are very accessible, The view is great and the atmosphere is top notch.

One of the most pleasant dining experiences of my entire life. Amazing view… absolutely breathtaking! Sit near the edge if possible. Food was excellent. The yellow sauce they bring out with the chips and salsa is… dangerously spicy…. Fresh caught fish is delicious. Pelicans flew by. It was really wonderful.

**Maria Cuquita – A Hidden Gem in Mismaloya** If you find yourself near Blue Horizon, Maria Cuquita is a must-visit spot just two minutes away. The food here is nothing short of incredible, offering authentic Mexican flavors that make every bite memorable. I had the **chilaquiles**, which were perfectly balanced with just the right amount of spice, crunch, and richness. But the true highlight for me was the **concha**—a traditional Mexican sweet bread that was simply out of this world. I've tried conchas in many places, and this one was by far the best. Beyond the food, Maria Cuquita boasts breathtaking views that elevate the entire experience. The combination of delicious cuisine and stunning scenery makes it hard to pass up this spot. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area—you won’t be disappointed!
